This old watch. (#2)

As I paused to wind Papaw’s watch today, I listened to Five for Fighting’s new song “Can One Man Save the World?” Dedicated to Ukrainian President Zelensky, the song asks if the world will say President Zelensky’s name in a thousand years, or is this all in vain?

As I listened, I tried to think of a person who has had a worldwide impact and captured the world’s admiration in my lifetime. I’m sad to say my heroes include a has-been rock star, a washed-up baseball player or two, and a couple of general officers I once served under. It doesn’t get much better than that — until this morning.

I’m not sure I can count the many leaders who have fled their country under similar situations. Not president Zelensky. He has me thinking — can one man save the world?
