Family Photos — Me, Dad, and Mark. (We lost Mark in 2004 in a tragic incident.)

Memories and things I learned from Dad. (#4)

One Sunday after church — I was probably 8 — my little brother and Mom were already in bed, and Dad was watching the evening news.

I’m not sure what possessed me — I went in, shook Mark, and told him it was time to get ready for school. I climbed into bed. Meanwhile, Mark went to the kitchen and fixed himself a bowl of cereal.

Dad noticed what he was doing. You can see where this is going.

After summoning me to the kitchen, he asked, “Do you think this is funny?”

“No, sir.” (It was funny.)

Dad sent me for a belt. (Not funny.)

I got whipped for a cruel joke, and Dad got a funny story he often repeated.

He would laugh!
